A beautiful and hard to find 1970s Chinese export porcelain Mandarin duck figure hand-decorated in an orange and tan palette. She is in swimming position with her legs and wings folded. Her neck is elegantly stretched and she is looking forward. Beautiful enamel work thoughout the entire body with soft but vibrant hues of orange, tan/brown and black accents.
In Chinese culture the Mandarin duck tells the tale of eternal devotion; they are said to mate for life and live in harmony until one dies. Rather than live in loneliness the legend says the surviving duck soon allows itself to perish. Such a sad yet beautiful love story!
