Antique Bisto England Large Soup Tureen
A fabulous antique English soup tureen made in London at the turn of the 19th Century!
With a classic Regency shape and style but with a touch of Roman interpretation, this large tureen must be displayed for all to see but also enjoyed at your next dinner party.
Features a royal inspired design of gold laurel wreaths, navy blue and gold trims.
Given its size and shape, this tureen would look beautiful on a buffet table, as shown in my photos.
14"L x 8.25"H x 9"W
Made in London by J Shoolbred & Co. between 1820 and 1931
In good antique condition with superficial crazing in the glaze and some brown spots inside
James Shoolbred and Co. (aka Jas Shoolbred) were established during the Regency period of the 1820’s. Noted for a sophisticated aesthetic look, their pieces often referenced Regency interpretations of Greek and Roman antiquity. They quickly gained a reputation for high quality products and by the 1880’s, Shoolbred had opened the London's’s first large department store on Tottenham Court Road, London.
In the mid 1880’s Schoolbred was granted a Royal Warrant, testament to the quality of their products but eventually ceased trading in 1931 following the financial depression of the 1920’s.
