A stunning and rare vintage gold footed urn with handles which I believe to have been made in Satsuma, Japan.
Satsumaware was produced in the mid 19th century and exported to the western countries. This piece appears to be a high quality export as it is easily recognized by its finely crackled glaze and by the fact that its yellowish earthenware body does not ring when tapped.
This footed urn features beautiful accents, including two panels featuring geisha court scenes, intricate handles and feet and stunning florals and scrolls in pink, blue, burgundy and black hues.
