A porcelain masterpiece, the Cobalt Net design is the trademark of the Imperial (Lomonosov) Porcelain Factory that was established in Saint Petersburg, Russia in 1744 by order of Empress Elizabeth. For a long time, the factory produced pieces almost exclusively for the ruling Romanov family and the Russian Imperial court, and for political and diplomatic gifts.
Its best-known pattern, the Cobalt Net, first appeared in 1945 and is represented in collections of The State Hermitage, The Russian Museum, The State Historical Museum and others.
The design features a blue net pattern of intersecting lines of cobalt blue with inverted tear drops of cobalt blue (made from mineral cobalt) and 22K gold accents.
