History & Provenance - The Legacy of Johann Seltmann Vohenstrauß

Founded in 1901 in the heart of the Upper Palatinate region of Bavaria, Germany, the Johann Seltmann Vohenstrauß factory became a global benchmark for porcelain craftsmanship. Established by brothers Johann and Christian Seltmann, the company eventually split, with Johann continuing to lead the Vohenstrauß facility toward a reputation for high-quality, decorative household porcelain characterized by its brilliant white glaze and delicate relief details.

Based on the specific green crown backstamp and the vibrant lithographic transfer technique, this set dates to the mid-1950s. This post-war era in Germany saw a resurgence in artisanal home goods designed for the growing middle class who valued both utility and "Old World" elegance.

These plates are part of a celebrated botanical series that illustrates the European tradition of the cheese course. Each plate features a distinct, lifelike still-life pairing various artisanal cheeses (such as Camembert, Emmental, and Roquefort) with wildflowers and greenery. The scalloped "relief" edge is a signature of Bavarian porcelain, designed to catch the light and provide a textured frame for the central artwork.

I was impressed with the beautiful quality of my hooked poinsettia throw pillows. They look stylish and lavish on my sofas . The service in getting them before Christmas was remarkable. I had tried another business but to no avail. I am a very happy customer of House of Andaloo.
