Discover the historic charm of old-world France with this curated pair of framed engravings, sourced from Paris. These pieces are antique late 19th century reproductions of the famous Cris de Paris (Cries of Paris) series by 18th-century master engraver Nicolas Guérard whose work beautifully documented the sights and sounds of the Parisian streets.

The "d'après Guérard" (after Guérard) notation on the plates indicates these are later editions that faithfully preserve the intricate line work and storytelling of the 1710 originals.

These engravings depict the "itinerant trades"—craftspeople and vendors who walked the cobblestones of Paris, each with a unique vocal "cry" to advertise their services

  • The Refreshment Vendors (Mdes. d’Eau, de Limonade et de Vinaigre): A fascinating look at the vendors who sold essential liquids from barrels and pails.

  • The Traveling Artisans (Repasseur - Chaudronnier - Rétameur): Depicting the essential services of the knife sharpener, coppersmith, and tinker.

Having journeyed from Paris, these prints carry an honest, lived-in history. Framed in vintage gilded wood frames with a deep, lustrous finish and traditional sage green French matting with hand-drawn gold accents.

As evidence of their age and journey, the mats exhibit authentic water-stain foxing along the bottom edges. We find that this "imperfect" patina enhances their antique soul, signaling their life as true European finds rather than mass-produced modern copies.

These are ideal for bringing "Parisian chic" to a kitchen, study, or a classic gallery wall. The warm gold tones and historical narrative make them a sophisticated conversation piece for any collector of French antiques.

  • Set of two
  • 7.75"L x 6.25"H x .25"D
  • Paris, France
  • Great antique condition with some water-stain foxing and minor chipping to the gold foil on the frames

I was impressed with the beautiful quality of my hooked poinsettia throw pillows. They look stylish and lavish on my sofas . The service in getting them before Christmas was remarkable. I had tried another business but to no avail. I am a very happy customer of House of Andaloo.
