Sourced directly from Paris, this exquisite antique French Majolica (Barbotine) asparagus platter is a masterclass in 19th-century ceramic artistry. Featuring a vibrant trompe l'oeil design, the platter is sculpted to resemble a bundle of white asparagus spears resting on a woven straw-textured bed, framed by lush green leaves and a bold turquoise scalloped rim.

The hand-painted glaze remains lustrous, with the deep turquoise handles providing a beautiful contrast to the sunny yellow basketweave pattern. This platter was designed both for utility—the raised center allowed for drainage—and as a decorative centerpiece for a sophisticated French table.

Finding Barbotine of this age without significant damage is rare. This piece is in excellent antique condition, with no chips, cracks, or repairs. It features a faint maker’s mark/number on the underside, consistent with late 19th-century French production.

Styling tip: While perfect for serving seasonal greens, this platter truly shines as a wall-mounted piece of art in a kitchen or dining room. Its oversized 16.5" length makes it a commanding focal point for a gallery wall of ironstone or other Majolica pieces.

I was impressed with the beautiful quality of my hooked poinsettia throw pillows. They look stylish and lavish on my sofas . The service in getting them before Christmas was remarkable. I had tried another business but to no avail. I am a very happy customer of House of Andaloo.
