Pair of vintage armchairs by Hickory Chair Company capturing the drama of the Neoclassical style and drawing inspiration from the English Regency and American Federal periods. The style name was called Anthemion, and the standard came in a medium mahogany but this pair was custom-made in antique black and gold (original custom order details still on the bottom).

The frames are finished in a striking Antiqued Black lacquer, richly accented with gold gilt detailing on the carvings and legs. The distinctive anthemion splat back features a stylized fan or lyre shape, a hallmark of classical design that gives the chair its formal, airy appeal. Details include carved rosettes on the seat rails, delicate fluting on the tapered front legs, and ornate roping on the arms.

They retain their original upholstery in a vibrant red striped fabric (likely a velvet or damask blend), offering a striking color contrast to the ebonized frame. The fabric is described on the original tag as "Red/Gold Stripe."

These chairs would serve beautifully as host and hostess chairs for a dining table, elegant additions to a parlor or living room, or as striking accent chairs in a large entryway or dressing room.
