History & Provenance

This stately pitcher is a beautiful example of Mid-Century American Silver-plate. While the design draws heavy inspiration from the ornate Rococo and Victorian eras of the 19th century, this piece was likely crafted in the United States circa 1950–1970.

The underside features traditional "pseudo-hallmarks"—a crown, a lion, and a shield—which were often used by esteemed American silversmiths (such as Lehman Brothers or Sheridan) to pay homage to the prestigious English Sheffield silver traditions. Crafted using the "Silver on Copper" method, this pitcher offers the substantial weight and warm, deep luster that collectors prize, as the copper base provides a rich tonal depth that standard nickel-based silver-plate simply can't replicate.
