A captivating pair of mid-19th-century Italian oil on panel paintings depicting romanticized, theatrical scenes of 17th-century cavaliers. Sourced directly from the historic Arezzo Antique Market in Tuscany, Italy, these pieces date back to circa 1850 and represent the charming Troubadour style popular across Europe during the Romantic era.

Each piece is signed by the artist in the lower corner and captures a theatrical, narrative essence. One painting features a proud gentleman draped in a deep teal cloak holding a walking cane against a dramatic crimson curtain, while the other portrays a meticulously dressed figure in a soft coral and white ensemble, caught in a candid moment of vanity beside a dressing table.

The paintings are housed in magnificent, heavily carved giltwood frames adorned with a deeply sculpted rose-and-vine motif, offering a striking depth and architectural presence that makes them true statement pieces.

  • Very good antique condition. The painted panels show beautiful, stable age craquelure and vibrant color preservation. Consistent with their great age and the natural movement of wood over time, there is minor cosmetic rubbing and light paint wear along the extreme perimeter edges where the panels meet the inner frame. This is entirely normal for mid-19th-century panel paintings, does not affect the central imagery, and is beautifully hidden/minimized by the frame depth. The heavy giltwood frames have a rich, historic luster with minor, authentic wear to the back casing and edges. Original hanging hardware is intact.
