Neoclassical Style Framed Brown Wash Drawing of a Sarcophagus With Putti
Fantastic reproduction of a 17-century Italian Old Master drawing, executed in pen and ink with a delicate brown wash. The work is a detailed architectural design for a classical-style sarcophagus, a common subject for artists of the Baroque and Neoclassical periods. Two winged putti are resting atop the monument, a motif that was frequently used in both religious and funerary art to symbolize life and death. Shading and fine linework used to create a sense of depth and sculptural form.
Framed in a beautiful and ornate gilded frame and matted with a cream silk fabric. Drawing was framed last by the New Street Gallery in Ontario, Canada, which has since closed.
This drawing is a beautiful piece perfect for any collector of Old Master drawings, classical art, or architectural studies.
