Antique Austrian Demitasse Cups And Saucers Set by Imperial Crown China Austria between 1883 - 1914

Demitasse set: 4 cups + 4 saucers

Stunning four (4) sets of Austrian flat demitasse cups and saucers. Each set is beautifully decorated and gilded.

Demitasse (/ˈdɛmɨtæs/) = small cup used to serve Turkish coffee or espresso. A demitasse has typically about 60–90 ml (2–3 fl oz) capacity — half the size of a full coffee cup (not to be confused with a tasse à café which is about 120 ml (4 fl oz)).
  • made for espresso and Turkish coffee
  • the perfect gift for the coffee or tea lover in your life
  • cups are 2.25" high and hold up to 3 ounces
  • saucers are 5" in diameter
  • in great antique condition, no chips or cracks; some fading in the gold as to be expected with age but primarily on the saucers. One of the cups has a small chip on the rim, see last image.
  • not suitable for dishwasher or microwave use
This Imperial Crown China, Austria backstamp was the pottery mark of a decorator and importer as distinct from a manufacturer. It was the mark of Bawo and Dotter who decorated blanks at their studio in Fischern which was then in a region known as Bohemia now called Rybáře, Carlsbad in the Czech Republic. However, their main office was in New York and they also had a decorating plant in Limoges. They were founded c.1883 and went on until c.1914. These Imperial Crown Austria porcelain wares are highly collectible.

Germanic makers using the name "Crown Imperial" or similar are actually paying homage to world renowned original Austrian maker Royal Vienna (the one true Imperial company of Europe), one of the original hard-paste European innovators back in the 18th Century.
